Acerca de este barco

Performance not yet known, still in the fitting out dock. Power is actually 2 x 6V 4Ah. ESC will be Graupner Navy V30R. Maybe 2 for differential control to support rudder. I've left 'Number of Props' as Please Select cos Belfast has 4 and this ain't an option!! Update May 2026: After Site Revamp: Now Quad props is an option😄
Long term plans for smoke (borrowed from model railway kit!) lighting and gun control. Have already bought magicians 'Flash Paper' for main battery gun flashes. Ignition using old 'out of work' glow-plugs? Any ideas welcome :-)
Ship is Graupner Premium line. NOT IMPRESSED with quality of cast resin parts, lots of air bubble depressions :-/ Fair amount of rework / repaint necessary! (Motor: Speed 540 x 4) (ESC: Navy VR30 or Viper Marine. Trials on 40MHz then 2.4GHz DX6) (7/10)

    Morning Doug.
I see that Belfast and Graf Spee have both been in dockyard hands under refit for over 6years.
May I suggest you sack the yard Forman as your refits must be well over budget now.
Be good to see some progress and them back on the water 👍
    Regards
    Bill

    Wow!😮
I believe that I perhaps have the honour to be the first member to be 'Liked' by the same member in two incarnations!! (His not mine.)
Another case for an episode of 'Paranormal Investigations'?🙈
    Thankyou Dave👍
Overall I'm staggered at the sudden resurgence of interest in my two Graupner 'Premium'🙄 ships!

Well, I just pulled the Taucher Wulf out and am starting on it again. I’ve decided the (cough, cough, ahem, “manual”) is more like a list of suggestions with a few pictures than anything else. I’m just gonna finish it.

    Hi Cash,
    I sympathise!
The problems with Graupner quality seem to have started when S.J. Incorporated of S. Korea rescued them from bankruptcy 2013/14. Graupner in Germany is now little more than a sales organisation 🤔
As you say, Krick did a much better job with Robbe. They took over the marine section and have there own production facility as well. The results are marketed as 'roMarin'.
I buy a lot of materials from Krick as well, reasonable prices and excellent delivery times, often the next day. In contrast to 4 weeks to never - never from our Chinese friends☹️
I started off with Krick about 30 years ago with their 1/72 kit of U25, a type 1A U-Boot - but that's another saga 🙄
If you ever need help with instructions in German let me know.
I've been 'hanging' out here for 34 years now - Tempus fugit!
How about a Blog about the Taucher Wulf??

Hi Doug. I have a half built Graupner Taucher Wulf in my “stash” of kits. I put it away to come back to later. That kit, like your Premium Line warships, is a little disappointing. The hull is fiberglass, and some of the fittings are ok, but the instructions are horrid. I’m an accomplished modeler, but don’t make me guess where to drill for the rudder post!!! Things like that. I’ve built 3 Micro Magic’s, all race versions, the first was an original German kit, the last two are from later, when Graupner reorganized. If I hadn’t built the original kit first, I would have a heck of a time building the other two. Now, to Graupner credit, the last MM I built seemed to be a little better than the second, and all three sail well. I just wish Graupner would do a little better job on their manuals, and quality control.
Krick has done a fine job with the RO-Marin kits, hope they keep it up. Part of the reason I like German kit manufacturers so much is a bit of nostalgia, I was stationed at Ramstein AB from 1988 to 1992, I have fond memories of building kits from Robbe, Graupner and Krick when I was stationed there. Anyhow, back to the new Graupner kits...I feel your pain.

    Hi Doug,
The 555 in my user name is not there for any real reason, I just couldn't think of anything else at the time.
Maybe I will change it later.

    Hi Martin,
I'd love to take credit for building Belfast and Graf Spee 😉 but I can't 🤔
As I mentioned in the Graf Spee post, they are both from The Graupner Premium Line (so called!☹️) ARTR. Frankly for the money I was not overly impressed; many faults in the mouldings of resin parts and painting.
The worst of all was the misaligned prop shafts on Graf Spee 😝 which scuppered my plan of some 'quick fun' while constructing / renovating more demanding projects. I also discovered cracks in the plastic prop hubs of Belfast (held on with grub screws) so the current work is concentrated on realigning the Graf Spee props (hull surgery!) and changing all props on both ships (All six of 'em) for Rabeosch brass props. Which means threading the shafts.
Shafts need changing in Graf Spee anyway.
Had hoped to concentrate on special effects not basics 😐 Hey Ho!
    Sorry to disappoint you

BTW: I've been cogitating about the 555 in your user name!
    Came to two possible conclusions-
1 You used to smoke (or still do👎) 555 State Express fags, as I once did,
2 Something to do with the use of the famous 555 timer chips?
    All the best,
    Doug 😎

    Hi Doug,
I have just been finding my way around this site and I love the two warships.
I know that you made them some time ago, were they kits or did you scratch build.

    Martin.
