I built this originally in 1974 with a Veco 61 glow plug engine in it. it ran on lakes in Western Australia that are now dry due to global warming. This year I cleaned it up a bit and installed a Graupner Speed 900 and a number of different speed controllers, all of which failed (including two Graupner Power MOS 60) or burnt out, including the motor. The current watercooled motor and controller setup is totally reliable and extremely powerful. The motor is rated at 80A continuous and the controller at 180A, and with a 50mm prop the max current draw is 46A with brilliant performance. With a two blade 70mm prop, current is 65A and a bit faster but not much. V8 sound system fitted but not that audible on the water at speed.
