Acerca de este barco

Yantlet is a model of an auxiliary Thames barge. In the post WW2 years, many barges had auxiliary engines fitted and continued to trade with the traditional cargoes and going to the same destinations as the pure sailing barges had always done. Later of course, many were cut down to pure motor barges before all the traditional work ended.

Peejay, not really a plan, Yantlet has a 30" fibreglass hull from Dave Watts, when he was trading as Mastman. From then on, she was built from my knowledge of Thames Barges. She is a generic model of an auxiliary barge, not a scale model of a specific one. All but two of my barges are named after creeks in the Medway area, apart from Upnor, which is a village on the banks of the Medway where I lived for many happy sailing years. The other exception is the Nellie, which is a model of the motor barge of that name, which I skippered for some years.

I missed this model on your first post. This one has a great deal of ‘character,’ like the sailing barges and puffers, but even more so, because it can be run under sail or power or both, all scale operations.

Do you know if it was built from a plan?

    Thank you for showing her.

So many boats and so little time. 😉

It was a nice boating day today, so we gave Yantlet another run. Here she is under power but assisted by her topsail.
