Bismark

Yes, Bill, I expect you are right, it just struck me whilst watching the film that modellers all over build the Bismark, and I agree she was probably more advanced than any of ours. I do remember during the war how much we heard on the radio news about all the German pocket battleships, Scharnhorst, Gneisnau, Tirpitz and Bismark's faithful follower, the cruiser, Prinz Eugen, that they were as familiar as any of our ships, possibly moreso. I do wonder though, how many Bismarks have been built compared with the entire number of British WW11 Battleships.

Cheers, Nerys

Bismark

Hi Nerys.
Now this is something very dear to my heart.
I am an ardent supporter of the RN and its history. It is my main historical love.
In short.I think the answer is that the Bismarck was depicted as an iconic German war machine that was without a doubt the master of the seas.
She was a loan “wolf” that was the scourge of the seas.
KG 5 was part of a flotilla that sank Bismarck (not decrying her actions).
She was a new ship that as we know still had civilian workers on board as she was on trials and pressed into active service to tackle the Bismarck along with Ark Royal Victorious plus eight other RN ships that combined actions sank her.
HMS Dorsetshire put the final torpedoes into Bismarck so history tells us.
I could go on....Bismarck and her sister Tirpitz were classics in their own right.

I think we build more of Bismarck because of their iconic history.
I do stand corrected.
Regards Bill 🍷🍷🍷

Ps.Sink the Bismarck is brilliant and a classic along with so many other classic Black and White Films.
Never give up.It will come right in the end.

I was watching that old favourite, 'Sink the Bismark' on TV earlier (99th time) and it got me thinking. I know Bismark was technically a great ship, but she was sunk by King George V, so why don't we build more model KGVs than Bismarks.?
