My 'De Groene Draek'

Yes Joe, for Scow read Schouw, they are all related, in fact any vessel that has a blunt bow is technically a scow. You get them in Oz and NZ as well and they are very similar to the big American Scow schooners. A member of the Association of Model Barge Owners built a model of an Oz scow a little while ago. Very interesting model and he told me that her performance was similar to his model Thames Barges.

My 'De Groene Draek'

Thank you for saying that you like my Dutch Schouw. I had a hankering to build a Dutchman for a long time and I was very pleased I did. I was a bit doubtful as to how she would perform but I have been really pleased. She may not be the fastest boat around but she behaves beautifully as far as handling is concerned, very positive in answering the helm and apart from that, she looks good. I have always been surprised that Dutch craft are not a popular build for modellers, there is such a wonderful diversity of design.

Cheers, Nerys

My 'De Groene Draek'

Nerys,
Thanks for the post on the Dutch Schouw. Lately I have been researching sailing scow history in the US. I did not know that Scow was derived from Schouw until I saw your post and looked it up!

My 'De Groene Draek'

For anyone interested enough to look, I've added some photos of my Dutch Schouw yacht 'De Groene Draek' in her natural element, to those already in my harbour. I can't help saying how pleased I am with the way this boat sails.
