Hi Cormorant,
looking forward to seeing your log.

I get the motors from eBay. Search for the ratios you need. Some are advertised in rpm. I have found them very reliable so far.
I cannot promise to finish one project before starting another. I know, I tried.

Hi Martin
A build log will be a first for me, but I will give it a go!
Initial sea trials in the morning (weather permitting), so I will take my camera.
Cheers

Hi Cormorant,
She is coming along nicely.
You should start a build log.
I for one would like to see it.

Not much to show so far and still a long way to go.

Hi Martin
Yes, it does, thank you. I can adjust the speed of the servos on the transmitter.
I will ,et you know how I get on.

Hi Cormorant I have seen a system some time ago using a servo to release the drive when lowering. The anchor then drops on own weight when servo starts to raise the anchor the drive cogs become engaged again. Luke Grace was showing it on another site. Might work well with Martins idea.

Hi Cormorant,
you could modify some servos to rotate continuously and make a cable drum and attach it to the servo, then mount it under the deck.
The chain can then run over the smooth drums.
the only problem I can see is to drop anchor it will have to be lowered instead of dropping.

The aft winch will have to use gearing to prevent it from slipping.
Again using servos mounted under the deck but having the gear cog passing through the deck to mesh with the gears on the winch.

I hope this makes a little sense .

Hi Martin
Pictures attached including size and state of gear mouldings.
On looking at it, both winches have smooth drums so I think the simple solution would be to run the chain over the drums and use small motors below decks as MouldBuilder is doing?

Hi Cormorant,
If there are some pictures on the box then maybe you can include them.

Thanks for that MouldBuilder. I also have the facility to use 16 channels with a Taranis x9d.
Where do you get your motors from please?

I am using five small 6volt geared motors to drive the features. 100, 400 and 1000:1 gear ratios. The motors are only around £5 each.

I am currently working on a project that will use 16 channels. 3 fire monitors rotating, lifting, lowering and shooting water, a raise and lower anchor, a twist, lift and lower crane and all the usual. I am using an eight channel Tx with a further 8 channels using s-bus. We will see.🙀

Hi Martin
The scale is 1/48. I will lay the actual parts out with a measure next to them in my next post.
I daren't do it tonight as my wife will lock me in the workshop and throw away the key!

Hi Cormorant,
This will take a bit of thinking about.
What scale is your model and approximate what size will the winches be.
The more information you can give us will help.

Hi Steve,
If you post some photos of the parts that you want to get working then maybe we can figure something out for you.

Having promised myself NOT to start my winter project until at least December, the build is underway with drive train and deck substructures in place. Initial sea trials booked for next week.
I am keen to have as many working parts as I can, winches, anchors etc, but I can't find anyone who has done this. Although the supplied fittings are very detailed, I can't see any way of making them work.
Any thoughts gentlemen?
Thanks.
